Avid Editing and Building Computers?

I am a video production student, who is basically starting to learn the Avid system. I'd close to to buy the program we have next to is Xpress Pro. That's not an issue, get the student discount, etc, but what exactly are adjectives these other external parts I am finding? Are they just the different ways to draw from footage onto your computer, or do you need something other afterwards the program itself to run the program?



In another subject, I would like to build my own computer that would be compatible for this program and adjectives it does. I know a bit about computers already, and some of the deep parts, but what, especially for the Avid program would some of the are some of the parts and models of which (for space and making sure the program runs nice and smoothly on it) that I would need?
