Usually a crash during install = RAM issue

Run the Diags supplied by your manufacturer to form sure. Download and burn http://memtest86.com (It's free to download, or buy the Cd for 10$).

Is this a repair install a parallel install or are you just trying to wipe everything out and start over?

The most stable reinstall is the one where on earth you delete every single partition and install fresh.
