Can a harddrive beside unpromising sector be used?

i own a 40gb drive that was wipe now it wil not format or dividing wall what can i do with this drive besides trashing it?

Can a harddrive beside unpromising sector be used?

Try low stratum format with software DM Disk Manager, this may fur the bad sector. Don't use this HDD as primary master.
Install it as a slave drive and download the complex drive setup program from the manufacturer's web site.

You can run the program surrounded by Windows, it will detect and check the drive, if possible it will low stratum format it, so you can use it.

You will lose space, of course, because fruitless sectors will be blocked from use.
You can run chkdsk on it at the command prompt and enjoy chkdsk mark the desperate sectors doomed to failure and not to use them, but that would be a waste of time.

Not much use for a 40g next to bad sector anymore. I'd suggest just buy you a 160gig or better, they are getting cheaper by the daylight.
If it will not format than, nothing it's useless.
