Dear crod!

As adjectives my friend have suggested u tto move ur background to the external one and keep os within the internal hard drive.

But, if u really want to boot ur laptop from extenal drive, then connect it to the system, reboot it, press delete switch on rebooting. U would find urself in setup. Go to bootsetup, in that u will find boot sequence, change the first boot device as u ahve external drive. set free changes to the setup and exit. ur system would reboot by ur external drive.
You will gain spotty performance if you try that. My counsel would be to have your operating system on your internal and move your other files to the external. Thats how my roommate have it set up and it works great for him.
Well just start abiding everything to that one, and if you want it to be deffault, some programs will let you do so, I imagine office will, try Office assist. If you're on mac, I can't help you much more.
Windows like the internal to be the main drive. It is merely on newer motherboards that you can make an external drive the prime drive, and even then most do not. Move everything approaching documents and songs etc. to the external and you will see more room on the internal. Most Windows programs also do not like loading, but, on external drives.
